Welcome to the Website of the Torrance Airport Association. It a goal of the Torrance Airport Association to advocate for the best management of the airport by considering the interests of local residents, airport users, and airport neighbors. These groups include
1. Local residents. This refers to everyone that lives, works, or operate businesses in Torrance and surrounding communities. They are served by a vibrant airport that spurs the local economy.
2. Airport users. These are the pilots and businesses that directly use the airport for business and recreation.
3. Airport neighbors. These are those neighbors near the airport who may be annoyed by flying aircraft. They need have their concerns addressed in a way that minimizes their annoyance without unnecessarily or illegally restricting airport operations. Communication and compromise are essential.
Balancing the various interests is a challenging task for the City. Unfortunately, government efforts lately have been defined by airport neighbors without consideration of other residents, pilots, and airport businesses. These efforts produced the implementation of landing fees and a prohibition on touch and go and stop and go operations. These measures were intended to reduce airport operations and early numbers show that operations have been cut in half (give or take). While the intent of the restrictions was to address a temporary increase in traffic caused by a training push to refill the airline pilot ranks, these measures will be difficult to undo. The result, when the current training crush is over, will be that aircraft operations will be at an all-time low.
My hope is to convince our City government that we need management at the airport that is interested in growing the value of the airport, not shrinking it.
